Introducing Your Cat to a New House

Most cats are not big fans of change. If they could chose, they would prefer to stay where they’re already comfortable and settled in. But, at some point in their lives, most cats must move on to a new location. Making the transition as stress-free as possible for your feline companion can have big benefits, including reducing the risk of fear-based house soiling, excessive meowing and crying, hiding, escape attempts and aggression. Adopting a Shelter Dog

Shelters have lovable dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes and ages. Your chances of finding a wonderful companion who matches your lifestyle and family are excellent! About 25% of shelter dogs are purebred. The rest make up the best selection anywhere of unique, one-of-a-kind mixed breeds, many of whom have already lived with families and have the basic social skills they need to become an enjoyable part of your household. High School Internship Program
On January 19, 2010, we welcomed several very enthusiastic Edisto High School students to participate in our newly founded High School Internship Program. This program introduces High School students to many skills that will aid in preparing them to enter a competitive job market. Overall, the design of this internship program offers students the opportunity to learn the following: basic tenants of routine animal care, administrative support skills, cleaning and sanitation procedures, behavioral interventions used to teach animals basic commands, grooming and bathing practices, and, finally, how to interact with animals in a humane and loving manner. The shelter’s animals benefit from this program in a huge way in that they are guaranteed weekly socializing opportunities, which greatly increases their adoptability.
